Hamilton Street Grill presents Peller Estates

Teresa Lee - September 25, 2009

A few days ago, I had the fun opportunity to participate in a Peller Estates food and wine tasting at Hamilton Street Grill. It was an extra fun night because I went with my equally wine and food addict friends. They are more experts on wine than me so I always learn a lot from them. I don’t attend a lot of these but I hope to do more in the future to refine my palette….and provide better descriptions when blogging about the event!

The Peller Estates wines were paired with selected dishes from the second edition of the Vancouver Cooks book. Executive Chef Neil Wyles and staff were gracious hosts and ensured all the participants had a pleasant time.

Enough with the introductions, on to the meals!

First was the 2007 Chardonnay paired with Oyster soup. The soup was pure awesome as the oyster taste was subtle and the croutons gave it more texture.

Next was my favorite wine, the Riesling. The sweetness level for this was at 0 so it was dry and citrusy. So surprisingly the Chardonnay was sweeter of the two wines. It was served with a very nice creamy tartine.

This was the best pairing of the night: 2007 Syrah with short-ribs over polenta. The Syrah was quite smooth which was great with the savoury short-ribs.

My poor pictures really do not convey how delicious the meals were and what a great time we had. I think we downgraded our classy night though by talking about ‘Irish Car Bomb’ cocktails and chocolate covered gummies :)

I took quick snapshots of the wines specs sheets in case you want to try them too.
