A Posh Farewell
Last Thursday was my last day at work and I wanted to have a fun farewell dinner with some of my coworkers. I decided to go with hot pot at Posh. Hot pot is quite the ‘social’ event where you can have a group of friends gather around, laugh, play with the food, and eat. It’s almost akin to a campfire …but not really. Japanese hot pot is also known as sukiyaki. Technically it’s considered a dish in the Japanese steamboat style. Traditionally, a saucepan size pot will already be prepared with the sweet soya sauce broth and ingredients, and heated up on the portable stovetop at the table.
At Posh, because it is an All You Can Eat establishment, you choose and prepare your ingredients impromptu. You have the option of different types of vegetables, meats, tofu, noodles, and rice. But do read the food checklist carefully as when it says one piece of an item, they literally mean one piece. I highly recommend ordering the udon and vermicelli as they complement the other ingredients like a big savoury bowl of comfort food. One key differentiating technique that separates the sukiyaki from other types of hot pot is the egg. When people first see the bowl of raw eggs, they tend to be perplexed as what they should do with it. Should they crack it and stir it in the broth? Or just place it in the soup and boil it? Poach it? The answer tends to make one squeamish. The raw egg is broken into the individual serving bowl, one egg per person. The cooked meat and vegetables are dipped into the sauce before eating. Some say it adds extra flavor and texture to the food.
Aside from their variety of bits and bites to choose from, Posh also has a comprehensive list of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. One friend ordered a refreshing lychee ice cocktail while another ordered their special of the day mango-yogurt concoction. I ended up choosing the green tea as it cleanses the palette which is helpful when the food can get too salty from being in the broth too long.
Posh will be updating their menu in June with more local ingredients and extending their drinks menu. So I might check it out again and see what kind of BC items they’ll be adding.
It was good times all around with my coworkers but I know I’ll see them around. I am the pseudo party/event planner anyways
Got something to say?
